I am not a fan of dance music, it is extremely popular I know, but with me, Skrillex and Kaskade can go home with Deadmau5 and David Guetta, it is just not my thing!
Well it seems I am not the only one. In an ‘MTV News Presents: Jack White’ video, Jack White explained his point of view on the subject of computer dance music:
‘Dance music just doesn't have a life to it’
He explained that he comes from a more traditional musical background like country, blues, rock 'n' roll and rockabilly, that all these things are living things contrarily to computer music, ‘You can’t really record bluegrass music on a computer!’
He basically said he is not really a fan of people on stage with a computer in front of them, he understands that dance music is about rhythms and moving to them but he, as a songwriter, would definitively prefer live performers with guitars and other real instruments:
‘I'm just more drawn to things that are more in that range. I love dance music, too, and I think it's cool. But as a songwriter and producer I'm more drawn to those more live elements.’
So I wonder whether Jack White (and I) are right, what will happen in 10-20 years, will people sill be playing instruments or will music be exclusively computer generated? Is Jack White getting old? Does he live in the past? Is the world evolving toward an all-electronic music, and has he lost grip with reality?
Did you notice his I-love-dance-music-it’s-cool after basically saying it was crap and kind of inferior to real living music (bluegrass and rock), may be just a way to avoid a load of hatred from the dance-music world?
And have you noticed his I-as-a-songwriter, meaning the other guys behind their computers aren’t?
I don’t have the answer, computer dance music may be a fad or not, but may be there is place for both types?
