Jack White just discovered he can rap! On his new song called ‘Blues On Two Trees’, the ex-White Stripes frontman forgets about the blues and rap in spoken words, talking about trees lying on the side of the road and commitment. But there are only 32 seconds of the song, so it’s hard to tell what it is about! Couldn’t he have posted the whole damn song, this tease is plain ridiculous!
However, the rap song starts like an usual muddy bluesy thing with Southern voices and then there is White’s voice, angry, rapping as if he was mad as hell (but he is always mad anyway) over scary noises appropriate for a Halloween night.
I have so many questions: Is it a new turn in his career? Is the song even a rap song or is it just the intro? Is it a stunt? Who is that woman and why is Jack White obsessed with ‘old’ ladies like her – remember about Loretta Lynn, Wanda Jackson? Why is it call ‘Blues on two Trees’ if it is in fact a rap song? The work of Jack White is already analyzed all over the Rap Genius website anyway…
The song is released as an exclusive non-LP B-side of the new single ‘I’m Shakin’, so if you bought it, you may be able to answer to some of these questions. (Editor: it is also available on Spotify)
