Jack White is a freak and he wants to be sure no one thinks he’s just a regular guy. Don’t even think for a moment you’re mundane artless life hold a candle to his fabulocity.
Not for a single second have I ever considered my life in parallel with White but he really has a rock on his shoulder about his fellow celebrities and their attempt to convince you they’re just ‘regular people’ Let’s just admit it if you have someone who dresses you and if you there is a human being that will sort the m&m’s for you, you’re not a regular Joe.
My thought is that Jack (years from now) will be the source of many books for his eccentric behavior, or perhaps they’ll find a thousand goose wings buried in his basement- he’s just odd and there would be no surprise if he were just a few crumbs short of a cracker. But he IS Jack White so I suppose he has the right to wing his opinion out all over Esquire magazine. Does anyone read magazines anymore anyway?
Here is Jack getting his hate on. This idiotic rant is courtesy of Esquire who really needs readers cuz they’re a glossy. White starts with Lady Gaga and fizzles his blabber to Clint Eastwood. If ever ‘shut up and play the hits’ applied, it’s with this guy.
'I don't think she(Lady Gaga) lives it because it's all artifice,' he told the January edition of Esquire magazine. 'It's all image with no meaning behind it. You can't sink your teeth into it. It's a sound bite. It's very of this age, because that's what people want. They want a Twitter line, a Jpeg, an MP3.'
Jack went on to slam famous faces who live out their lives in Twitter. He believes only funny stars should tweet their movements.
"Twitter is the most perfect example of modern living. I think the only people who should have [Twitter accounts] are comedians. Because it's all about one-liners,' he explained. 'You don't want [late American writer] Gore Vidal telling you, 'I'm doing my dishes right now.''
Jack wishes stars would remain more removed from the public spotlight.
The 37-year-old musician prefers to remain somewhat anonymous and doesn't understand why so many celebrities go to great lengths to appear normal.
"The goal of modern celebrity is to make yourself into the lowest common denominator. 'Hey, I'm a guy just like you. I like a beer, a football game.' Especially in reality television, you'll see people will go so far as to make a fool out of themselves just to prove that,' he added. 'You know, Clint Eastwood is doing one with his family, and it's such a disappointment.'
Interestingly enough the boy back peddles on a dime. He actually stepped forward pointing a finger and a scowl at NME for taking him out of context- NME? I thought he was bitching only to Esquire? Apparently he made the rounds to every tabloid in the UK. Here is his 'clarification'
I'd like to address the recent tabloidesque drama baiting by the press in regards to Lady Gaga. I never said anything about her music, or questioned the authenticity of her songs in any way. I was in a conversation about the drawbacks of image for the sake of image, and that it is popular nowadays to not question an image in front of you, but only to label it as "cool" or "weird" quickly and dispose of it. I don't like my comments about Lady Gaga's presentation being changed into some sort of negative critique of her music. If you're going to try to cause drama, at least get the quotes right. I think journalists should also be held accountable for what they say. Especially publications like the NME who put whatever words they feel like between two quotation marks and play it off as a quote. maybe somebody with more lawyers can take them to task, but I'll just use the internet and twitter instead. I also think that kind of tabloid drama encourages artists to not express their opinions in the press, and instead give polite soundbites that don't stimulate thought about creativity and the consumption of art in its many guises. Peace to lady gaga and I fully congratulate and compliment her on her championing of gay rights issues and the momentum it's given to help create change.
Thank you.
