It's Such A Relief: Kanye West's Future Is Not In Music But In Fashion

Think what you want about Kanye West – and I don’t think much of him – but his endless rants are entertaining. They never make sense to me, the guy is nuts  and obviously constantly in love with himself, but each time I say that I will not read about another of these Kanye’s deliriums, but I do and laugh out loud.

This time, he gave an extensive interview (two hour-long) to the Los Angeles Radio Station Power 106, and, as you imagine, discussed about everything. I will spare you the Kardashian part of the interview, his desire to make amusement parks, to come up with a better app than Instagram, or even to design the new Sistine Chapel, because this is pure madness, but I will tell you about the interesting part: his strong interest for fashion. He even thinks he has a future in the field, declaring that his impact on the world of clothing design will be more significant than his work in music… Ha! I thought he was the next Steve Jobs or whatever he said during this insane interview for the NY Times,… I will refresh your memory:

‘I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means. I am undoubtedly, you know, Steve of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period. By a long jump. I honestly feel that because Steve has passed, you know, it’s like when Biggie passed and Jay-Z was allowed to become Jay-Z.’

Of course when someone speaks of himself at the third person, and uses that kind of grandiloquence to speak about himself, there is a point of no return. And Kanye didn’t top that NY Times interview during this radio show, that was impossible, but he said this:

‘One of my friends is the head designer for Louis Vuitton [but] if I had the opportunity to design for Louis Vuitton now I wouldn’t because the prices are too extreme and I don’t want to use my message to have kids saving up that much to be a part of what the ideas are.’

And he continued reveling he wants to be the ‘Tupac Shakur of fashion’, adding that he feels frustrated that black designers are condemned to have an ‘urban’ design. I am not sure I know anything about fashion (I actually hate that superficial world) but what I remember from Kanye collection was an orgy of furs (disgusting) and these horrible bead-shoes, priced at $6,000,… what a joke! Sure the world needs more of these! Plus this is in total contradiction with his previous statement, but Kanye is all about contradictions. Didn’t he also sell plain white t-shirts for the modest sum of $120?

At the end, I feel kind of sorry for Kanye, his obsession for fashion and Paris designers are not gonna silence all these gay rumors any time soon.
