Is This The Best Week For New Releases Of 2015

What an incredible week for new releases, first the Van Morrison catalog comes to streaming but then what sounded like a pretty good week yesterday has become a pretty great week by today.

We know Yo La Tengo, Foals  and The Weeknd are at the top of the class, all three of which are improving the more I listen, but the real shocker is how much better the second ring of releases are: Motorhead, Liam Corcoran, Willis Earl Beal, and  the ridiculously excellent Monk Parker, are all good enough to be albums of the week. Every single one will make my best of 2015.

On top of that, wow, here it comes, the Jimi Hendrix sixteen track live at the Atlanta Pop Festival, July 4th, 1970, is sixteen tracks of Hendrix at his very very very best. 82 minutes that make you just shake your head in wonder and amazement. Unspeakable greatness: this is what happens when you are a genius who spends every waking moment with either an electric guitar or a girl on your lap and also happen to be a genius.

Well and above the best fit of new releases of the year, though it would be better with at least one great rap album in the mix, this is what makes worth life worth living: just that place where every single thing you hear makes you go woooooaaaaah, what the fuck is going on here. Liam is what you hoped the Superchunk solo would be, Beal is top of the rank experimental pop stuff…

Also, here is where streaming really works for you because you can hear it all.

Happy Saturday!
