In 2009, Bono infamously, but accurately, called Chris Martin of Coldplay a wanker during a radio interview. And then, after being forced to apologize for his language, called Chris "a completely dysfunctional character and a cretin" instead.
Hard to deny, of course. But then Bono went on to compare the Coldplay leader to McCartney and Ray davies, which is much easier to sneer at. And even that, given Martin having borrowed both with and without permession, both songs from third parties, even his limited abilities might be in question.
The last two rock bands standing, the end of the line for the giant rock and roll monolith birthed in the 1960s with the Beatles and the Stones, and reaching its zenith wih Zep, are getting unstuck in bad, bad vibes.
Bono in paricular is being caught by the windmills of the gods grinding his reputation into dust. I wrote about An Irish music society protesting Bono and the rest of U2 moving their business from Ireland after the goverment ended artist tax caps in 2006.
Moral outrage gets really old when writing about rock stars. If Springsteen essentially doesn't pay taxes on 200 acres of farmland in his beloved New Jersey, what is to stop a rank hypocrite like Bono, playing his roots in the olde sod like a slot machine paying out on three cherries time after time, and yet, while his country, which he owns his very persona upon, is going bankrupt, the scumbag moves his business.
After Paul McGuinness pathetic remark that they are not an Irish but a multi-national corporation, incorporate this you scumbag. U2 couldn't wrap emselves more up in the emerald isle if they wrapped it round their dicks and used it as a condom.
And Chris Martin? Martin is to U2 what Bon Jovi is to Springsteen. Of course Chris Martin is a horrible human being. Of course Jon bon jovi is a moneygrubbing asshole. of course Bono is a egomaniac of napoleonic proportions.
And slowly but surely, the pr veneer that covers em like a tapestry of lies is coming unravelled.
