This is what a great live set does for a band.
After years of being entirely on the fence over the Hold Steady. Indeed, a day before I went to see them I wrote a shuffle post in which I said that because Of Craig Finn’s distinctive voice all the songs sounded the same. Well, guess what. I’m full of shit and the Hold Steady fans are right. This is a world beating rock band and their sound is uniwue and intoxicating hard rock sire of Springsteen.
In effect, what happened to me is what happened to me after the Julian Casablancas concert and the opposite of what happened to me after the Girls concert.
The live show taught me what to listen for and the audiences participation taught me where the hooks were.
The new album is out in a month and NOW I can’t wait.
