How To Destroy Angels' New Single/Video, 'Keep It Together'

Being totally ignorant about this band, I can say that this new How To Destroy Angels’ track, entitled ‘Keep it Together’, is a strange affair, a sluggish fuzzy grinding electronic background contrasting with Mariqueen Maandig’s sultry and sexy vocals.

The post-industrial tune is so dry and sci-fi-out-of-this-fleshy-world music, you feel kind of relieved when you hear human vocals, but the ambiance stays so icy and bleak during about five minutes, that it was difficult for me to decide whether I could understand it. Could I possibly become one day that depressed I could listen to this mood-killing kind of track? I don’t exactly get it, but also I don’t completely dislike it. It just builds mysterious ambiance of syrupy coldness with dark electronics, only amplified when Trent Reznor joins his wife on vocals. It’s beyond music, just layered noises which sound like the static soundtrack of an android’s dream.

And this is actually the single off How To Destroy Angels’ new EP, ‘An Omen’, a collaboration between NIN’s Trent Reznor, West Indian Girl’s vocalist Mariqueen Maandig, Atticus Ross and Rob Sheridan… I haven’t listened to the whole EP,… the Los Angeles Times loved it, Pitchfork was moderately interested, and Nine Inch Nails fans will probably dislike it?
