Twitter is a great tool which allows you to get information about anything almost instantaneously, which gives you the pulse of the day, and the trendy topics… but the followers are key if you want to be heard, how many followers do you have? You always want more of these followers…. since you are only powerful when you have a lot of them, right? However, you may realize that a lot of these followers are fake.
Fortunately, there is a website called Twitter Audit which allows you to check how many fake followers you have. I did run the test for me, and it turned out quite great: I got a 96% audit score, meaning that only 4% of my followers are fake ones. But what about these bands and famous musicians which pretend to have tons of followers? Can we run an audit too?
First, let’s try with my favorite, Kanye West, who gets the poor audit score of 52%! But there is worst! Taylor Swift (I couldn’t resist) 33%, whereas Beck (couldn’t resist either) obtains an excellent audit score of 95%. Other losers? 38% for Rihanna, 42% for Justin Bieber (only slightly better), 59% for Beyonce, 54% for John Legend, 45% for Lady Gaga, 41% for Nicki Minaj, 57% for Usher, and 35% for Katy Perry, whereas Paul McCartney obtains 77%, Madonna 81%, Annie Lennox 94 % and among the young generation, Lana Del Rey gets a good score of 82%, Sam Smith obtains 82%, St. Vincent 80% and Lorde 90%… I could continue all night long.
But do you see a trend? I am not saying that there is a correlation between the level of mediocrity of an artist and his or her percentage of fake followers, but I want to start the rumor…
