"Ho Hey" by The Lumineers Reviewed

Don't you hate it when you hear a song over and over again, but never get a lyric to type into Google to find out what this beautiful mystery tune is? Or, even worse, you think you’ll like it but get sick of it within a few days?

I recently came in direct contact with a tune I've been humming to myself for a long time, and only now do I know the title and band. It's "Ho Hey" by The Lumineers. Insanely simple, yet it packs a punch. It has a folk feel, but Wesley Schultz's voice offers diversity and doesn't pidgeonhole the music. He could sing hard rock, or country, or alternative. I don’t remember the last time I heard a voice like that. The tune has a big-band feel, and the backing group vocals is what drives it all. It's one of those songs that you'd sing with your friends at an autumn bonfire.

It's a gentle flow, a constant bounce. It doesn't escalate to anything, and by the end you just want to hit replay. Something about the tune makes it feel personal, and intimate. It's a song that is reminiscent of love, but it doesn't have any ridiculous similes or smoke and mirrors. It's simple, flat out words. The way it's directed and straightforward makes it stand out from the pack of overflowing nu-folk bands that are trying to follow in Mumford and Sons' footsteps.

You just want to sing along, and share it with the people you love. It's a perfect chilly weather soundtrack, and it is absolutely timeless. It's sharp and precise, clean and leaves you wanting more.
