Thirteen years after Marshall Mathers released what may stand as greatest moment, the Marshall Mathers LP. You know, the one with “Stan”, “The Real Slim Shady”, “Kill You” -the flat out masterpiece that had Elton John singing with him at the Grammys.
Lo, these many years later and a handful of tours, the last time I saw Eminem was at Yankee Stadium with Jay Z in, what, 2010? And some good albums, some less good albums, but here comes MM2 and from just the samples here, it is pretty impressive stuff. I guess he straightened up, got over Kim, Hayley grew up and Eminem rehabbed and grew up.
From what I’ve heard of this EP (EP? You mean he ain’t dropping an album?), well I am very impressed. The beats, Rick Rubin and Dr. Dre at work, are really alarmingly powerful. They sound heavy hevay heavy. The EP drops November 5th.
The first single is out, I think it is, today, and while the name of the album, “Berzerk” is terrible the sound is incredible. I wonder if Matt has worked through the nightmares of “The Way I Am” once and for all. I wonder if he has closed up his world and is ready to secure himself?
Remember when Eminem was the anti-Christ? It is kinda silly going through this over and over again. It makes me amused that people can get upset over the same crap over and over again.
