There are times when you see someone you know do something so out of the norm that it shocks you to the core. Such was the case tonight as I took front a seat to see our own Henry Sins in the role of Emcee in 'Cabaret'.
Cabaret a dark comedy with social commentary has a boatload of sex, booze and Nazis. Revolving around a sleazy club full of violence and lust, with our dear Henry the Master of Ceremonies.
Now I already knew Sins to be a wonderful intelligent guy with a hipster flair and a way with words but what I found most startling tonight was the watching what a brilliant actor he is. In his first production he not only stole the show he stole the hearts and minds of every audience member. Iman and I often refer to Mary, Layna and Henry as 'the kids' but tonight, Henry was a man who took on a challenging controversial and powerful role and made it a stunning experience.
I was not only impressed but proud to see what a strong and dynamic presence Henry had on that stage. From the subtly sass to the outright sinister he skipped from scene to seen with the elegance of a seasoned pro. With topics of racism and stereotypes as the basis for hatred Henry guided us flawlessly from the fun of wild abandon 'don't care' mentality, to the shocking ending of a death camp prisoner. He left me speechless and ice cold.
Now I would be amiss if I didn't give a shout out to Tristan who is the fantastic guitarist of Winters of Discontent, a band he co founded with our own Mary Magpie. Together Tristan and Henry lead the cast on a journey Tristan the vision of hope to Henrys rush of illusion. Here are a couple bootleg videos we took lights are bright, the sound is off but none the less THAT'S OUR SINS!
Congratulations Henry…so fuckin' proud of you!
