Hear Ye: What rock nyc Is Listening To 2-9-13

1. Wide Lovely Eyes – Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds – We've been waiting for Push The Sky Away for year and upon year and to be honest, gaving streamed it maybe twice, I would dub it midseason Cave. Not bad, sure, but a little dowdy maybe. Except for this full bloodied piano ballad which is so beautiful it kinda stops your breathe. Prettiest song I've heard since Regina's "How" – Grade: A

2. Different Drum – Michael Nesmith – The version on  And The Hits Just Keep On Coming and not as pretty but funnier and twangier and he gets more more out of "I feel pretty sure that you'll find a man who wlil take a lot more  than I ever could or can…" Grade: A+

3.Major Distibution – 50 Cent – This sure sounds a lot like Hov… Grade: B

4. Try – Pink – I listened to the album quite a bit so how I missed this great little self-help manual, I don't know – Grade: A-

5.Sound And Vision – David Bowie – Listening to it in 2013, I am surprised out how much guitar there is, like it takes 40 seconds for the synth to make an appearance – Grade: A+

6.Accident prone – Eels – I always get excited when I hear a new Eels album is being released and always end up bored pretty soon – Grade: B-

7.Beauty And The Beast – David Bowie – yeah, better believe it is better than "Heroes" – Grade: B+

8.It All Means Nothing – Screaming Females – This band gets better than better, though I am not as formed of their new one currently streaming on Pitchfork as I am on this one – Grade: A-

9.You Just May Be The One – The Monkees – ALL MEN MUST HAVE SOME ONE…. Grade: A+

10.The Healthy One – Laura Stevenson And The Cans – Vaudeville charmer – Grade: B+
