It is hard to live at the top of the food chain and not be thankful, but essentially, as a middle class, middle aged, media professional, that’s exactly what I do all day long” over worked and constantly stressed out, running between jobs, late nights at hard to get into gigs, waking up at five in the morning to review the concert, than rushing to work and working on advertising campaign rollouts all day long. I feel sorry for myself. And as for giving thanks? Life is too subjective, there are people in true duress but meanwhile I’m not getting enough sleep so what do I care.
But one thing I am thankful for is that music exist. Music is the perfect idiom to do so much that I enjoy doing:
1. Daydream
2. Think
3. Write.
4. Enter a social group.
5. Use as a mode of self-identification.
6. Play at, play too and play with.
7. Devote my life
6. Devote my free time.
7. Care about.
8. Implicate people.
9. Express who I am
10. Exploit
Literature is too insulated, motion pictures too social, art is wet literature, and none of them have the wham bam social compatibility. None of them matter and don’t matter as much for so many. Music is everything and without it life can be lived but man would it drag.
This Thanksgiving let me quote Abba for you:
So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing
Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me
