Hall Hall Rock And Roll
On thursday you will find me at MSG for the first night of the 25th Year Celebration of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Or Jann Wenner and buddies turn rebellion into money.
It’s not that I don’t think there is a place for a Rock Hall of Fame, it’s that I don’t think Wenner should be running it. And whuile Springsteen doesn’t need his Famer Board Member Jon Landau to get him in it still reeks. I don’t know but I sure hope they are using the Hall’s profits to provide pensions for the many rock music performers who never made it that big and not simply to make the Hall bigger.
Having said that, each star artist gets to choose three artists to sing with. Springsteen has chosen Sam Moore (of Same and Dave), John Fogerty and Tom Morello. The bill also includes Simon and Garfunkle, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Stevie Wonder. No idea who will be playing with the other artists but I would bet on Neil Young? Paul McCartney? Vampire Weekend? Well, maybe not Vampire Weekend.
The second night has Aretha Franklin, U2 and Metallica. Metallica have chosen Lou Reed, Ray Davies (remember “You really got me”? That’s why) and, er Ozzy Osbourne. Aretha will be dueting with Lenny Kravitz and Annie Lennox (was that “Sisters Doing It For Themselves” Annie and Aretha recorded together?) I don’t have a tix for that night but a pal of man is trying to hook me up!!!
