Yeah yea, their kids college bills are piling up so it's time for reunion. Oh and no Henry so lets just make sure we have the facts. Founding father Gregg Ginn has announced a series of reunion shows for 'Black Flag' with Ron Reyes fronting the TV Party.
Black Flag are cited as heroes for countless acts these days and I have the distinct pleasure of having seen them numerous times in the 80s.But I'm not so sure that bad boy persona can carry at their age. Henry Rollins got it right. Stayed in the biz, kept his attitude and is actually putting it to some good. Although I want to pop him for his anti Morrissey stance I admire how he grew up and stayed a punk.
Reyes fronted them from 1979 until 1980, followed by Dez Cadena then Henry Rollins so at least they can be 'original'! The geezers official reunion will take place in the UK at Hevy Fest, Event organizers note: “There is a whole generation of musicians and fans who would cite Black Flag as being the most important band to have influenced them.”
Ginn is 58 years old. Again we run into the 'too old to rock and roll' category. I have been proven wrong by The English Beat, Morrissey, and Jethro Tull but the difference between those 'old acts' is that they're not trying to be young angst ridden party punks. So how would it be to have a 58 year old guy saying "I've got nothing to do but watch TV and have a coupla brews'? Suddenly you're not picturing a bad ass dude with a guitar but the fat sluggo of The Family Guy. Weird scene man. I'll take a pass
Tour dates stateside to be announced soon.
