This
This was written with a sole purpose: to make you crazy with envy. In a life of concerts beginning when I was SIX YEARS OLD (documented in a very early post here where I had my sisters verify!) and ending, well the next gig is tomorrow, some stand way way out -particularly if there is no chance of a repeat. Dates are iffy because when I switched apartments I lost my ticket stubs (plus I didn’t keep em till the 90s anway)
Marvin Gaye – Radio City – Sometime in the 80s, $20 for a nosebleed and i was writing and didn’t have to pay.
The Clash At Bond’s – Village Voice got me the tix, man was that place hot. Bo Diddley opened.
Peggy Lee and Mel Torme – Carnegie hall – 1995 . With a gun to my head? best set I’ve ever seen was Peggy Lee. Four standing ovations. A breathtaking experience of art over form. Her second to last live performance ever I just read? If the Hollywood Bowl got anything close to this… All these years later, I am still speechless at her genius.
Jeff Buckley – Roseland – Opening for Juliana Hatfield. Place was half empty and all of us who were there will never forget it.
June Carter Cash – The Bottom Line – Yeah, but only if you’re in the market for Johnny’s son leading the band and being teased by mom and June’s stories about dating Presley.
Frank Sinatra – Radio City Music Hall – The only time I saw him live and also? He didn’t even need to sing, he could just pause and whip the microphone cord.
Two I was ready to go and then they died: Carl Perkins and Joy Division in NYC (saw em in Manchester a coupla times).
