The next two weeks, the Cold War Kids will be all over the place in LA, the 24th they are playing with Grouplove at the Bootleg, the 25th they have an in-store at Amoeba music, the 26th they will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and next Tuesday, I’m gonna see them at a private event, at the 98*7 Penthouse in the Hollywood Tower Hotel, thanks to Kevin Bronson who runs the blog Buzz Bands LA.
Singer Nathan Willett was interviewed for this same blog, about the upcoming album ‘Mine is yours’ that will be out the 25th.
Singer Nathan Willett was interviewed for this same blog, about the upcoming album ‘Mine is yours’ that will be out the 25th.
He talked about the maturity of this third album, compared to the two previous ones,…linked to the fact that they have all reached their 30s, and he also discussed the difficult process which made the band going into another direction without losing its own identity.
According to Willett, their music, which was known as ‘character-driven and playful’, is ‘more straightforward and candid’, as he ‘wanted to do more journalism and less fictionalizing’ on this next album. If he used to be talking from the point of view of an alcoholic father or a prisoner on death row, this time, it will be all about the good and the bad of personal relationships
For ‘Mine is yours’, they have been working with producer Jacquire King, who has worked with big names such as Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Modest Mouse, and, er… Kings of Leon. However, this has only affected their songwriting in the sense that they wanted to be at their best.
Their new sound is now bigger, and I have read elsewhere that it will probably appeal to even more people with a few sing-along anthem gems; the title of the song ‘Louder than ever’, that you can listen now, just promises that.
