Gogol Bordello is back, with the release of their sixth album ‘Pura Vida Conspiracy’ on July 23rd, and according to their forum (these kids are avid fans and usually very well informed) 19 songs were recorded, but not all of them will make the cut on the album.
The band has already shared one of the songs ‘Malandrino’, which means mischievous in Italian, and it’s a lovely song, full of life and personality. ‘My birth I can hardly remember/But I remember from the start/My midwives looking at each other/Wow, this boy is born with singing heart/All doors for him will now fly open/For everybody loves a nut/It's true once they threw me in trenches/Front line amigos sure love that', sings Eugene Hütz with his biting sense of humor over an acoustic guitar melody, before going all gypsy-punk, violins-on-the-brink-of-nervous-breakdown, body-parts-in-all-directions with the chorus,… well, the usual circus with Gogol Bordello!
According to a press release, ‘Pura Vida’, Spanish for pure life, will resonate the important themes dear to Eugene Hütz and his troupe, with an opening song ‘We Rise Again’ whose chorus claims ‘Borders are scars on face of the planet’! But there is a bigger mission, the question of creating a worldwide consciousness. Hütz explains: ‘For me music is a way to explore human potential. And that’s my main interest in life – human potential. Everyone knows there’s something inside of us that we’re not using. How do we get it? How do we reach it? Every single person knows that there’s something and nobody knows what it is. So at one point I said to myself, I’m gonna get down and get it.’
And the band, which has never stopped touring (they actually took a little break since May 2012) will bring back their riotous live shows on the road and around the entire globe,… except there are no dates in California yet!
