Despite starting their career at the Cavern and despite being managed by a certain Brian Epstien, from day one, from “How Do You do It” on, it has been exceedingly hard to take Gerry (Marsden) and the Pacemakers very seriously.
That stops here.
Watching the remastered “The T.A.M.I.” I was astounded by a segue from Chuck Berry to Gerry mid “Maybelline”. And Gerry got the hardest verse in rock and roll history (when he catches Maybelline on top of the hill) and despite a quick inhale of oxygen, Gerry gives a bravado vocal performance in front of the man who if he had another name it would be rock and roll (Lennon on Berry).
Completely shocked me and suggest Epstein neutered Gerry and the band.
So as of right now this second, let us all welcome the Pacemakers to the upper echelons of rock music.
