'I'm going to be 100% honest with you.
I'm 13. I have a little band. We are so much better than you. Honestly. You are the worst band I have ever seen in your entire life. You are worse than Rebecca Black. The bass player just hacks the bass and plays one chord. The guitar players are playing out of tune guitars and… well not even playing actually chords. I couldn't sound worse if I tried. It actually sounds like a joke to me. The drummer is okay. But honestly the vocalist is completely out of tune. Oh and The Black keys have two people and are better than you.
From: Me, and pretty much everyone else who has accidentally stumbled upon your terrible music.'
This ‘fan’ letter was posted by Sonic Youth on Thursday on their Facebook page…. And got 2,000 replies! I am tempted to see it two different ways: 13 or not, the person who wrote this letter, has some guts to attack rock gods like Sonic Youth, a respected and adored band, which changed the rules of alternative-post-punk-experimental music! Yeah, you could think this is a clever kid, who dares to go contra-culture and express himself.
Sure, but not really,… he (or she?) kind of represents the archetype of what I confront every single day: an arrogant self-centered little prick who thinks he knows everything. Have you noticed? It’s all about ‘I’ and ‘Me’, and his/her assurance to be right. We may all have opinions but they are based on a lifetime experience. What’s wrong with this new generation who is full of certitudes at birth and systematically rejects what is not immediately understandable? The fact that he or she has listened to Rebecca Black says it all, this 13-year-old is not very adventurous and has all figured out,… I bet his/her band sucks!
