As we head head first into 2013 it is that time when we assess the year that was and the name over and above all others that simply won't go away is… da dah… Frank Ocean.
I wrote about this the other day, how just about every best of for 2012 has him there somewhere. I would like to believe my ears are letting me down, but in my heart I think he is not all that. Good yes, his work with Odd Future was very powerful, and out of 14 tracks on Channel Orange, 2 are great, 2 are OK, and 10 do nothing for me.
Now comes the news that Ocean was nominated for six Grammy's: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Urban Contemporary Album, plus Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Short Form Music Video for "No Church in the Wild" .
But here is a question pop pickers, what do you think will happen if the follow up is more of the same? It won't be pretty.
