Fox News Blame Rap For The Decline Of Christianity

jesus_rapper

yo jesus!

Fox news blame rap music, I thank science education? This is just too funny! Fox News commentator Bill O’ Reilly did one of his opinionated rants on his daily show, fuming about the regression of religiosity in our country: According to a recent poll, between 2007 and 2014, the percentage of Americans who consider themselves Christians went from 78.4% to 70.6%, while the ‘unaffiliated’ portion of the population went from 16.1% to 22.8%.

And since O’ Reilly always has to blame someone, and especially minorities, emigrants and rap music (his recurrent scapegoat) he had to blame rappers for this accomplishment. According to Stereogum, this is what he said:

‘The rap industry, for example, often glorifies depraved behavior, and that sinks into the minds of some young people, the group that is most likely to reject religion.’

But O’ Reilly just demonstrates how stupid he is by saying this, because most rappers are incredibly religious on the contrary. Lil Wayne? A great believer, during a concert he said ‘First thing, we have to thank the Big Guy upstairs.’ Others like The Game, Chris Brown and Jay–Z have thanked God at award shows. Ebony A. Utley, who wrote a book called ‘Rap and Religion: Understanding the Gangsta’s God,’ explained that for him rappers use god as inspiration but go beyond this, they take on the role of god themselves,…. hello Kanye/Yeezus! Eminem has also a song ‘Rap God’ in which he considers himself as a total…err god. Sure, his lyrics are also totally homophobic, but isn’t it what good Christians do these days?

So God is really present in rap, and rappers are constantly referring to the divine. Many ofthem have also ‘found’ God according to this Buzzfeed article, and ‘Emcees have been rapping about religion and referencing it since the inception of Hip Hop into pop culture’, says this article on Genius, which gives tons of references to God in rap lyrics, from Tupac to Frank Ocean and Kanye West… ‘You do not see a rapper without a ‘Jesus Piece’ these days, with even Game’s Jesus Piece having a ‘Jesus Piece’ of its own’ continues the author. ‘When hip-hop artists deploy the Christ image or story for their own purposes, they tap into a long history of everyday African-Americans trying to maintain belief in the Christian God with the realities of their oppression,’ said Edward Blum, associate professor at San Diego State University, to The Atlantic.

So there’s no way Bill O’Reilly is right! Rap is not responsible for the decline of Christianity, on the contrary they push the God agenda all the time… but O’Reilly is a simple guy with huge blinders on each side of his big head… A decline of Christianity? I see that as a good thing, may be the product of more science in school curriculum? Whatever… But I have bad news for Bill, religions are in decline in most industrialized countries, big time! According to a 2012 Gallup International survey, the number of atheists is on the rise across the world. And the most atheist country? China! oh yeah rap, is very big there!
