First day sales of the Beatles “Rockband” have proven weak -hardly a surprise to followers of this blog. It is not that great an idea (even the Stones would be better!!) and surely the Beatles target demo is completely wrong for Rockband.
Retail sales of the Box Set have been swift but what does this mean. Between 33rd Street and 61st in Manhattan there is precisely three record stores. Who cares if they all sold out? By the pay $250 plus tax for 14 CDs comes to $20.53… why??? Why not ten bucks a pop and $140 including tax. i’m not a commie but the price is a blatant rip off. We’re only in it for the money, indeed.
Look, it has been forty years of the Beatles. I love them but I can’t hear them -I’m bored to death of the entire catalogue. I know it backwards. I’ve bought it on vinyl, 8 track, cassette, CD, remastered CD, british versions, American versions, on compilations, as covers, on Macca solo albums, on Starr solo albums, and Harrison and Lennon, in Vegas, in movies, in musicals, on broadway, off-broadway, off-off broadway, live, in anthologies, in greatest hits, on boots, on TV shows, in bios, on videos and DVDs, in commercials, and dya know why it’s not on Apple today? So they can sell it to you again tomorrow. I’m sick of it and i can’t hear it any more. It is great pop music, it is on a level of creativity with Gershwin and Schubert, and it makes my brain rot I’ve heard it so much. I’d rather listen to any song on The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart than every Beatle album combined. The only thing left worth listening to by the Beatles is “Revolution # 9” and Listen To the Lions – which isn’t even a Beatles album.
This isn’t brain surgery folks: if you give a shit about popular music and don’t own all the Beatles official releases, buy em. If you do, save your money on this overhyped lemon.
