Yes, Saturday, February 16th is George Washington's birthday and I can not tell a lie. There is too much going on that night. Five absolute must see concerts and only one me? It happens from time to time, you just get completely killed with choices and start getting out maps and timetables to see how many you can make. I think I can make two, so here are my choices for the person on the move.
1. Lulu at BB Kings -with Paul Shaffer and the Fab Faux playing back up so it should rock pretty damn hard. Hopefully, no opening act because if there is an opening act, I'm screwed. So maybe a 90 minute set will get me out and I can rush to MSG and see…
2. Maroon 5, the fabulous pop star featuring over tatted and over exposed Adam Levene. I will probably have to miss the first half but life is hell and I will absolutely have to miss…
3. Savoy Brown at the Iridium, the UK 60s blues band I would certainly gone out of my way to see if I wasn't otherwise engaged or
4. Yo La Tengo at the Town Hall, I haven't seen em live in years and years because I am not going to Maxwell's for Hanukkah but their latest (streaming on Pitchfork with a sampler on Spotify) is their best since I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One.
5. And finally, Chris Stamey at Joe's Pub. When I last saw Chris Stamey with his band the dB's I noted he was better solo than with the band and would've loved to have proven my point… but it is not to be.
So, make a choice and live with it. You can't go wrong on Washington's birthday.
