Rappers have a problem with homosexuality? What’s new? Nothing really….Rapper Fat Joe, who does not seem to be that fat anymore (but this is another story), did an interview with DJ Vlad and talked about his feeling about homosexuality and what he called the ‘Gay Mafia’ which, according to him, runs the hip-hop world. First, when he was asked if he thinks he has recorded with gay rappers, he declared this:
‘I think I've done songs with gay rappers. I'm pretty sure of that. I'm pretty sure the football n—-s is gay, the basketball n—-s is gay — n—-s is gay," he continued. "There's millions of gay people in the world. Girls, too. Once again, I'm not a fan of that s— either. I'm a fan of 'Yo, I'm gay, what the f—?' 2011, you gotta hide that you're gay? Be real! Like, 'I'm gay, what the f—?' If you gay, you gay. That's your preference. F— it if the people don't like it.’
His answer would be perfect if he hadn’t added that last word, ‘that’s your preference’? That’s quite ignorant to say this. But the most surprising of the interview is his rant about the gay mafia:
‘[Hip-hop] is the greatest gay market in the world. The hip-hop community is most likely owned by gay. I happen to think there's a gay mafia in hip-hop. Not rappers — editorial presidents of magazines, the PDs at radio stations, the people who give you awards at award shows. This is the f—ing gay mafia, man. They're in power … So why wouldn't a guy come out and say, 'Yo, I'm gay' and get that type of love? Like Lady Gaga, I don't know if she's gay, but she's running with that gay s— for real. And she's winning. It's 2011 going on 2012. If you're gay, rep your set.’
I got a mixed message, his discourse is a amalgam of be-scared-the-gays-are-in-control, and if-you-are-gay-come-out! Weird!
