Being the involved theatre kid that I am(proudly a member of The International Thespian Society), I was listening to a few soundtracks over the weekend and truly saw how incredibly thought out a few of them were. Here are some of my favourite musicals.
Sweeney Todd.
Sweeney Todd is one of the most well-written musicals of all time. My all time favourite, it’s clever and witty. The music is perfection and it’s a musical without being “lame”. And in the movie, Johnny Depp plays Sweeney and his voice is perfect.
Wicked.
The original broadway cast, of course. The plotline is fantastic, and the music is beautiful. The story is gut-wrenching and wonderful, it’s probably one of my favourite musicals I’ve seen. Not to mention I sing the songs constantly because they’re so catchy and “For Good” makes me cry each time I hear it.
Billy Elliot.
When I saw this on broadway a few years ago, I was almost brought to tears. It’s an inspiring story, but the soundtrack retells the tale just as strongly as the show. The accents add so much more to the songs, and each time I listen to this CD I relive seeing it.
Now to go put on my own little production, dancing around my house and singing.
