Why is OK for The Decemberists have the right to get harmonica twangy when just a day ago I kicked the crap out of Costello for the same thing?
Easy.
The Decemberists are layers of sensual sound. Tapestries woven and warm. Costello is a rocker.
Even when The Decemberist ‘rock out’ its done with a folksy sorta twang, think ‘The Rakes” song. Yeah still works.
So Collin gets away with not only a chick harmonizing over his glorious voice, but a harmonica and its an absolute win. What a great gift this free download is.
