First off I want to make it clear that this was an assignment. Most often I chose what I want to write about. Iman and I somehow ended up on the topic of Sesame Street and next thing I know I'm bubbles deep in Rubber Ducky.
Childrens music can nearly make you want to kill yourself. You think Marilyn Manson is a threat? Id listen to that all damn day before I could take a half hour of Barney or Raffi. For some reason we think children want to hear strange pitched voices, the only strange pitched voice the Magpie listened to as a child was Joey Ramone and maybe Iggy. She turned out fine.
BUT
I love Ernie and Bert, Ernie with this hit and Bert had "Doing the Pigeon"(not in a biblical sense weirdo– its a dance) "Rubber Ducky" is an ode to bath toy. Ernie professes his love for the earless cuddly friend squeezing him for emphasis. Within the confines of this lyric we learn that not only does Ernie look forward to bathing because of said duck but also is man enough to admit his fondness for this latex love.
Wait- that doesn't sound right. Ernie is not considering the duck a coin operated boy is he? Some weird psychologist would deem Ernie disturbed for his love of aquatic fun. I for one would defend bath adventures. Playing in the bathtub is a wonderful thing, the more splash the better.
Lyrically the song is top notch. Musically a bit repetitive but well then again, it really gets the toes a tapping.
