The past is another country.
And they don’t make em like Eddie Fisher, who died yesterday.
I don’t suffer from nostalgia but I have no doubt of the following things:
Hollywood movies were better in the 40s then they are today
And celebrities, who often did something worth celebrating, .
A teen heartthrob, Eddie had a TV show in the late 50s and a great baritone which made him a big time chart topping star singing, to be perfectly frank, fairly crappy pop songs.
Then he married America’s sweetheart Debbie Reynolds and became an even bigger star.
And then he divorced her for Elizabeth Taylor who is also married.
The second marriage was swell till Richard Burton stepped into the picture and stole Elizabeth away.
The divorced dimmed Eddie’s lights and left him with… a daughter. Carrie Fisher.
And yesterday at the age of 82, Eddie sang his last serenade.
They really don’t make em like that any more.
