When you have access to only one part of the story, you cannot be sure of what happened! So what happened exactly? Well, Best Coast drummer Ali Koehler is not part of the band anymore. Sure, it happens all the time, people leave a band and join another one, the problem is that Koehler tweeted the following sentences to her fans:
‘Not my choice, sorry if you're disappointed’
‘Cat's outta the bag, I'm not in Best Coast anymore.’
‘I'm sorry, I'm equally disappointed’
And to the obvious enquiry of ‘what happened?’, she replied ‘your guess is as good as mine’.
Not a lot of info, but a little bit more was brought in the picture by Hipster Runoff, who had a field day with the story as usual, noticing that Best Coast had already replaced her drummer with ‘uncool middle aged white man’ during a show on Tuesday night in San Francisco.
Meanwhile Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno have already been recording a new album at Capitol Records in L.A. under the direction of Jon Brion.
Koehler does not want to stop making music nevertheless, as she also tweeted ‘I've practiced with a new band a couple times, but I'm not planning on going full time anytime soon’
and
‘Whether it's in a basement or at an amphitheater, you will always see me playing music in some capacity. Hopefully sooner than later’.
We’ll see what she has next in her bag.
