Drive Reviewed (More Or Less)

"Drive" is a cool, slick car chase movie with Ryan Gosling adding to his budding resume as a Steve McQueen for the 21st century. As a stunt car driver for movies during the day and a getaway driver at night, Rosling's "Driver" is all emotional distance and quiet, brooding menace. Till he meets next door neighbor Carey Mulligan and her yound son. They thaw out Driver , Gosling even smiles as if to prove it.

But her husband gets out of jail just as things are getting interesting, as Ryan makes one more, very badly judged, getaway.

The story is brooding and bloody but never a bore. This is an immensely bloody movie, and Goslings propensity for violence is quite alarming. We never do really figure out his back story, but for sure the guy is capable of handling himself. And he will need to be.

And the music is modern techno, Kavinksy's "Nightcall" is on the soundtrack which is all you really need to know. But also, the emotional highlights of the movie are set to Collge, Electric Youth's "Under Your Spell" -an aural explanation of the transition the Gosling character goes through, "and you will have to be a real hero and a real human being"

The music is all moody synths and treated drums. It is like Fall On Your Sword if Fall On Your Sword weren't such an innovative band.
