Swedish trio Junip has shared a new song, their new single ‘Your Life, Your Call’ off their forthcoming album set to be released on April 23rd via Mute. The song is a little change from their usual krautrock post-rock pulsating music, as the track is sensibly more dance-y-upbeat with José González’s pure vocals floating over a sea of smooth harmonies coming from layered synths and discrete percussion.
‘It felt like trying on new clothes when we first listened to it – it took a while to get comfortable with it, but now I like it a lot’ says José González’s to describe the song, and I feel quite the same way after my third listening. But don’t get fooled by the lightness of the melody, the lyrics have the habitual poignancy of a Junip’s song as they go on repeat with the mantra ‘It's your life, your call/Stand up or enjoy your fall’… There’s something so doomed and tragic about this line and it’s amazing how much meaning you can find in it.
