Dick Clark is dead. I find it crass and awful that the holiday ball drop is carrying the same title as always. There were ways to rename and still pay homage to perpetual teenager but… no.
For some reason the 'boy wonder' Ryan Seacrest will host the show this year- alone. I strongly believe that that sense of 'tradition' and don't let me be the killjoy of New Years Eve but I 'New Years Rock'n Eve' is sufficient without Clark's name.
Anyway, they don't listen to me. They have announced their line up and its just as predictable as always Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepson and Neon Trees will be in Times Square. Neon Trees are everywhere having shown up at the Macys Parade as well. How about a new song cuz "Everybody Tawwwwks" is getting horribly annoying. New Years Eve wont sparkle without Taylor and if Carly 'Call Me Maybe" doesn't rustle up another hit soon its gonna be a sad 2013.
The show will kick off at 10pm and for those of you with a bit more urban flair there will be Flo Rida, Fergie and Mr. World Wide Pitbull himself. Personally I want a New Years Eve with Blue October, Pitbull, The Specials and Morrissey. Can someone throw that together? Really what has Fergie done lately?!
What does this add up to? Some of the most 'so last year' performers on a show that didn't have the courtesy to revise its title. ABC used to be THE place for New Years Eve but now? Well aside from Pitbull, yeah no I'm not in. They say that there are 'more acts' to be announced.. lets get crackin or I'm gonna start hoping that the Mayans were right.
