Depeche Mode To Barclay Center – September 6th, 2013, A Friday No Less

Depeche Mode have been going down hill ever since Vince Clarke left to form Yaz (and later Erasure) and that was back in, yikes, 1981. Which would make me NOT A FAN. There are all these synth bands from the 1980s i am unthrilled with. So many I might be better off looking at it from the opposite direction. Yes to the Pop group and the Human League (and Yaz(oo)) and a big fat raspberry to everybody else. and listening to a greatest hits as I write I can kinda hear where I may well have a problem with these fellows.

With the exception of "personal Jesus" nothing is making it for me and with the exception of "People are people" nothing is much making it for much of the US. Is it me,or is "People Are people" a little, well, twee is the word that comes to mind.

Still, Depeche Mode were a popular little band and then lead singer and martin Gore came over all Spinal Tap jazz Odyssey for awhile and wore black nail polish and suicide attempts and junkiedom. then they straightened act and now they are a nostalgia act who still release albums nobody much cares about.

Still, credit where due, etc. they are a hugely influential band whose Songs Of Faith and Devotion was the OK Computer of a different era and whenever "Mojo" has a poll and regardless of what the poll might be about, there is Depeche Mode at #43. So, given all that, and given my never having had the slightest interest in seeing them live whatsoever, the news that DM were playing Barclay center on September 6th and a Friday night… maybe it is time to check em out, right?
