Im being told The Dear and Departed are the next best thing since sliced bread
OK OK.. let see…
“Matter of Time” seems to be the big one here but seriously they sound like the stew of alty popsters. I’m not sold they could be Alltimelowacademyisfalloutboy …
blegh, heard it before
Digging deeper through the cd “Chapters” and I strike pay dirt with “Tambourine Love’
Here is a song where the vocalists depth shoves the comparison out of the way. Its still catchy but its got almost a New Wave hook to it, like Depeche Mode chillin with Modern English.
They sound like adults, a concept I’m not that used to. “There for the Taking” is another throw back New Wave sound. AH HA maybe? This is background music but I cant say its bad. I cant say its the next best thing either. I can say The Dear and Departed are catchy, that lead vocalist Dan “Under” Smith, has a moody sort of old school sound that I find endearing. I do a bit of a search on him, and find hes the tattoo artist on LA Ink with Kat Von D………w..t….f?!?
In a world of alty boy bands I’m not sure where they fit. Maybe that’s a plus. The category-less world we’re all aspiring to?
Help me out with this one. I can see the appeal but I cant place it. Not that the sound is so very unique, its not. But more that it swirls in different elements of not only the former ‘new romantic’ scene but a bit of freshness as well. I wish I hadn’t looked them up though. The whole reality tv guy / musician thing pretty much soured it.
But they’re cute and catchy, and I don’t think they’re as permanent as the ink to the skin.
