It was in a way funny to see this large lightning cross from a church near by in the background of the main stage that frontwoman/catwoman Lovefoxxx had made hers for the rest of the Sunday night. Indeed, with her acrobatic moves, appearing first wearing a cape and a bejeweled mask with horns, she looked like a super heroine of dance beats, and each of her dirty sexy moves was like a kick in that cross,…‘I’m 15 years old, I can kick and stretch, I’m 15 years old!’ she said early in the show.
With her high-energy stage presence, she was the red-haired ringleader of the Brazilian band CSS, at Filter’s Culture Collide block party, a power-house just by herself, backed up by synths, drums and guitars, fueling a non-stop party of power-electro-disco.
After a few of her punchy dance-rock numbers, she had let mask and cape down, probably ‘tired of being sexy’ (as the moniker of the band says in Portuguese), pulling down her black spandex to cover her tiny jeans short, not taking a time to breathe between the songs, dancing, jumping, stripping, working the crowd, ‘My voice is cracking’ she said, asking the audience to help her for the next song, ‘it’s very bouncy! She added before starting a jumpy rendition of ‘Jager yoga’ with a borderline rap delivery à la Blondie.
I had seen girls wearing CSS t-shirts who had been standing in front of that stage since 3 pm, and that probably says a lot about their fans who had packed themselves against the stage; they got overwhelmed when Lovefoxxx went in the pit for a few crowd baths and even a memorable crowd surfing later on. She was showing up all the moves of a true performer, I mean I remember more about each of her pirouettes than the music itself which was going from electro-techno-pop to synth-funky.
‘My voice is fucked! Let’s do this’, singing the ooo-oos of ‘Hits me like a rock’, lending the mic to the front row in awe, visibly having a very good time over these tropical-enough dance beats. But when the band played their hit ‘Music is my hot, hot sex’, the ambiance became wilder than ever.
They actually played songs from all their albums, the 2006 ’Cansei de Ser Sexy’, 2008 ‘Donkey’ and their last effort ‘La Liberacion’, and Lovefoxxx announced their last song ‘City Girl’ as their next single, ‘We’re so happy about it!’
But is there even one song Lovefoxxx is not happy about?
