Connecticut Bands Unite in Solidarity for Sandy Hook Elementary

On the 8th and 9th of February, several Connecticut bands will be performing to raise money for Sandy Hook Elementary and the families of victims of the tragic shooting that took place there last month. The main show on the 9th is a reunion show for CT bands With Hope and My Heart To Joy, who will be joined by Call It Arson, Hostage Calm, and the Newtown based Ovlov. That show, which will be at Hungarian Hall in Wallingford, is partnered with the February 8th show at the El ‘n’ Gee in New London which will feature Misery Signals, Life In Your Way, Make Do And Mend, Corelia, and The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die.

The shooting and killing that took place in December at Sandy Hook shocked people on a global scale, though it made a particularly strong impact on Connecticut residents. As someone who has lived in Connecticut all his life, my first thoughts upon hearing about the shooting were “Wow that’s a town over from where my grandparents live and from where my little cousins are growing up” and this was not uncommon on that day and in the days following. Everyone was shocked that a small town in Connecticut, known only as other Connecticut towns are for its beautiful scenic roads, could experience such harsh tragedy. At a time when every thought on the shooting has turned political, it is amazing that these bands and these PR companies can come together and say “we are here for you, and so are these hundreds of other music lovers”.

The Facebook events for the February 8th show ( http://www.facebook.com/events/469769823064961/?fref=ts) and the 9th (https://www.facebook.com/events/468284886561412/) hold all the event and ticket information and provide the opportunity for one to share the event and invite your friends. As Greg Thomas, guitarist of Misery Signals and owner of CT recording studio Silver Bullet Studios said in a recent comment on the February 8th show’s Facebook event page: “Please spread the word, repost, encourage friends to go, carpool, get into it. We want these shows to be nothing short of legendary.”

The ticket website provides the opportunity to purchase a ticket, a portion of which will go to Sandy Hook, to purchase a ticket with an extra $10 added all of which will go to the school, or just to donate to the school if you don’t want to buy a ticket.
