Chuck Berry is one of my heroes and really if you don’t love Chuck Berry why bother even pretending you love rock and roll.
I went to Berry’s New Year’s Eve show at BB King’s and it was my first review of the new year.
Last night Berry collapsed on stage in Chicago and i wrote about it as well.
His son Charles Berry jr. replied in on comments and I am gonna put it front and center. Berry is among a handful of giants who tower over music, he doesn’t roll over Beethoven, he is Beethoven.
“If you played live music and enjoyed it as much as he does, you would be still doing it too! Yeah, he may have a few pennies more than some but the real joy comes from being in front of a crowd and entertaining them.
I read your review and there’s no harm, no foul there as far as I can tell. You called it the way you saw it. So it really just comes down to you win some, you lose some. From the cheers and applause in the YouTube clips, more enjoyed the show than not. They were entertained and left with an enjoyable experience to remember.
My dad is OK from what we can tell and just needs some rest. He will get right back up, strap on his guitar and do his thing. You can bet on it.
