Three really good albums and boatloads of whatever with at least two serious dogs in the mix. Take it or leave it, I don’t care, I mean yeah Trey is # 1 but he only sold 105K so oh well whatever, right. I wonder how many of these albums will go, forget platinum, gold.
Not bad right? Two years ago I was watching Ed Sheeran at the Mercury Lounge and now, holding tight to Taylor Swifts coattails, here we are. Sam smith was probably still a virgin two years ago and as for G. Easy? Man, he must have deep pockets, I bet it cost a coupla million on advertising to get him here. iIt must break down to $20 per sold CD!!!
Except for the Legend song, this is a plenty good top ten. Both Iggy songs work for me and “Summer” is an excellent song of summer. Nothing else seriously annoys me and if this is what the top ten looks like in 2014, count me in.
I love it when my taste and the zeitgeists taste coincide. It doesn’t happen nearly as much as I wish it did, at least because I am such a pop whote, sales always pricks up my ears. It killed me hating Frozen for months on end. But I love the top two on this list, written about them lots, and seeing them here at the top of the charts is just heaven!
As bad as Lazeretto is, the vinyl sounds awesome: it plays backwards and forwards, there is a holagram of an angel, alternative songs depending on where you put the needle down. The result? The vinyl alone sold an astonishing 40,000 copies and vinyl alone? White would have been at # 4 on the charts. Meanwhile, that country album? Painfully bad.
Better Led Zep’s first three albums than all those damn Bro boys, right? And much better Miranda Lambert, who, should stop dressing like Bozo if Bozo was a honky tonk hooker, than any Bro including Eric Church. Between the four of em you’ve got a solid album charts for a change.
Yes, folks, at the top of the charts is the only Coldplay album I don’t actually hate. Young Chris problem as a composer is he is a magpie and too obvious, as a lyricist he doesn’t have a poet’s soul but as a manic depressive he will do nicely.
The Brantley Gilbert is nothing much, a touch above Bro Country but not that hot, Coldplay is their best album to date which expresses more my distaste for Coldplay as opposed to my appreciation of the album. Every thing else is the bland leading the bored.
Can I pick em? No, not at all. I could’ve sworn both Coldplay and Michael Jackson were gonna bomb and bomb big and they both hit the charts in the first week. Avicii produced by the Coldplay song, I just assumed it was Eno!
Wow, that really sucks. Worst list ever in fact. I think I might have gone easy on Black Keys, Michael Jackson, Rascal Flatts, they are all “D”ish. It is real strange that a chart that takes so little to make an impression on could be so terribly bland.
The only positive thing I can think of adding to this story list is most of it will be gone by next week, Frozen, an album I can’t stomach, loses its # 1 position to a compilation franchise. How sickening is that? And the rest of this is MOR drips and those that aren’t didn’t sell much anyway. Sad stuff, really. To have your record broken by a franchise album

Both Iggy and Future are pretty good albums, though my bet is Future falters fast. Neon Trees –well, it is not as though they were that big to start with and if you ever catch em live your opinion will of em will instantaneously improve.
I am enough of a pop fan to give big props to DeRulo and Pharrell, two of the best albums of the years may only have girls on the mind but who doesn’t only have girls on the mind and if all you want is to give props to the playas, do it this well and you’ll get no kick from me.
Yeah, no one is shocked that Pharrell is back at # 2 but what is shocking is how much it has sold: 29,000 copies. If all you are selling here is 29K maybe it isn’t really anything very much. Record sales appear to be coming to an end while the new musical equations are more like a polularity than a sales contest.
5 seconds Of Summer moved 130K units, not bad but under industry expectations and, it is an EP! I am not sure about the EP stratergy at all. It’s been around a year the band have playing hide and seek with their tween fans and at some point soon their tween fans will give up on them.
This isn’t even a popularity contest. Book ended by two perennials, the 8 in the middle will be gone by next week. So let me take a moment to mention how much I enjoy MCR greatest hits? Alright? On to next week.
Six of these albums are new to this week and of the old ones it certainly hits me as though Ross and Pharell might not have much staying power. Meanwhile, Frozen -which sucks by the way, has taken the world by storm and I can’t let it go.
The album charts are so volatile it is like an earthquake. Yet again, six of these albums are new to the charts, it is like they just explode into outer space of sound. Whooomp. all all the charts, whooomp gone again. I have never seen the charts like this before.
Half of this list are new this week, proof, as is Rick Ross, whose sales are down by 25% from his last album, that the album charts are a bewildering wonderland of medium cool bands here today and gone tody and all the real action is on the singles chart.
After moving over a million units the first week, and half a million the second week, Beyonce has been on the charts for the entire year and counting. 11 weeks? Which makes it the album of the year so far. Meanwhile… the Schoolboy Q and the Kid Cudi have their moments FYI.
Yeah I saw “Frozen” and a fun movie no doubt but compare it to even second tier Disney, “The Jungle Book” say, is there anything comparable to “Bare Necessities”? The truth is there is nothing remotely close to the greatness of the Sherman Brothers anywhere .
Eric sold nearly 300K copies of his dog album, giving spoken word a bad reputation from sea to shiny sea. The thing is, when he is good he is not good enough and when he is bad he is the absolute pits. Come back “Jack Daniels” all is forgiven.
