Cat Power has a new song, she had promised it, and it is just in time for Christmas.
‘King Rides by’ is a melancholic, very slow burn, packaged as a video directed by Giovanni Ribisi (Beck’s brother-in-law) and staring boxer Manny Pacquiao doing the almost same repetitive move for 7 minutes.
Cat Power’s voice is particularly moving during this long and haunting incantation, which seems to beautifully agonize for some lost love, ‘You don't miss your water/'Till your well is gone’.
You can download the song on her website (http://www.catpowermusic.com/) in exchange of a donation, all proceeds going to two charities ‘Festival of Children Foundation’ (serving diverse organizations improving children’s lives), and ‘The Ali Forney center’ (helping homeless LGBT Youth)
According to Matador Records, Cat Power is finishing her new album, and it is not clear if this new track will appear on it.
