Cash For Memories-by Alyson Camus

Memorabilia, collectibles, it’s useless, pricey but we love it nevertheless. Gottahaverockandroll.com has tons of memorabilia for any kind of taste, and has even partnered with Sothebys for auctions. Looking at their catalogue online, I realize I would never be interested by buying signed albums and photographs, they would only mean something to me if the artist had signed it for me.
Right now, they have a lot of Beatles-Lennon memorabilia, 70th birthday landmark oblige, but some of the items are so weird, I have a hard time to understand why anyone would be interested to buy stuff like this. For example:

– John Lennon & Paul McCartney Music Limited Bank Transfer: I don’t care how rare is this bank transfer, it is just some paper from a bank, and it is sold for $6,000-$8,000!

– John Lennon’s receipt from Cave Photographic: A yellow receipt he got after getting some pictures framed! And it is sold for $2,100-$2,300, insane.

– George Harrison’s life insurance receipt from the Sun Life Assurance Society Limited in London: a pink piece of paper sold for $2,000-$3,000

I think you get the picture.

Then you have the really personal stuff, borderline creepy, because would you want to put your hands on intimate objects your hero has used, worn, sweat in,… not for me!

– Paul McCartney’s owned and used personal brown leather vanity travel case circa 1960s sold for $4,000-$6,000… yummy, I wonder if it comes with the used body lotions.

– Elvis Presley’s owned and worn tan suede jacket: He wore it at a recording session with Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash, so imagine the price! $30,000-$40,000 but you have to keep in mind that suede never cleans up very well.

There are many clothes worn by Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson (the famous black gloves from the ‘Bad’ album cover for $20,000), but also some cute stuff like this cute and intriguing McCartney hand drawing from 1976 with this sentence ‘Yesterday all my troubles seems so printable’, the price? $12,000-$14,000, but totally worth it.
