I didn't start rock nyc for the sole purpose of insulting the plain awful country singer Carrie Underwood. Or maybe I did, Whatever. But either way I HAVEN'T solely disses Underwood though God knows I've been provoked.
But then again, she hasn't been picked to play Maria in the Sound Of Music before.
NBC are rebooting the iconic musical with Carrie taking the role of Maria, the apprentice Nun, portrayed to perfection by Julie Andrews. The TV movie musical will be filmed in 2013 and air next Christmas.NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt said: "Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn't be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria Von Trapp."
According to contactmusic.com: The show will be filmed live and is being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the men behind the hit NBC show Smash, as well as hit movie adaptations of Chicago and Hairspray.
I'm not claiming the role of Maria Von Trapp is uncastable. It's tough to find that mix of playfulness and flowering womanhood but it is doable. Maybe (Maybe) maybe Selena Gomez. Anne Hathaway could do it. But Underwood will be 30 years old by the time filming starts. She climbs a tree and scrapes her knee??? Underwood???? And it's not just age, I once saw her OPEN for Keith Urban and she changed costumes six times in half an hour. She is a mega-rock star egomaniac without an ounce of innocence left in her.
Did you ever see Bill Murray in "Scrooged"? Where a network is presenting a live version of "A Christmas Carols" and gluing antlers on mouse? Meet your "Sound If Music" 2013. I predict one of the most hilariously productions ever mounted. Must See TV.
