Hey Helen, don’t blame me. If you recommend a band to me I’m gonna listen to em and though I eagerly await your and Mary’s interview with Call The Cops I started with “Get Closer” and ended with the entire EP and I must admit these guys are excellent.
When I love, I dunno what to call it, tweenrock? Anyway when I like the bands Mary loves it’s ALWAYS because I love the drumming. Even if you can’t dance you can dance to “Room 410” and the chorus is wonderful: “I’m tired and I’m breathless and i can’t go home—” I think they’re either a) in love or b) in detention. And either way works for me.
Plus any band with song titles like “Watch Me Make You Hate me” are gonna get brownie points just because.
One problem: the production levels em out too often. This is what happens when you have unlimited tracks: it sludges too much.
But that’s true of everyone and so unless Call The Cops are willing to record in analog it’s the way they’re gonna sound.
And anyway, when you can make “I met her in a bar and drove her car back home from ‘Chain Reaction'” sound like Keats and when you do it in a song while fucking with your vocals so much when you sing “All I wanted was something real” it sounds like an in joke and a political commentary at the same time, you’ll do for pop music wonks like me.
