Oli Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon has been a part of my home for a very long time. I’ve heard him, I have seen him and I have heard about him. I finally got to see the band live last Saturday night. As reviewed here, the band puts on an insane show.
One of the most common comments here or on any music forum is that the writer either ‘doesnt know shit about music’ or “doesn’t know about fucking music” (note, I absolutely know about fucking music, just sayin…)
So back to BMTH. Hardcore is music for teenage boys who cant get laid who should IV Proactive Solution and when they aren’t on their asses drinking Red Bull and playing Black Ops are on facebook stalking scene girls.
Right?
Wrong.
Hardcore is one of the coolest genres out there.
Do I belong?
Hell no.
I go to these shows and I’m older than security and guess what, I don’t care. I’m not a mom in the back row holding her handbag I am right up there in the crowd and even before rocknyc I would be in that pit.
Why? cuz no shitty little kid is going to try and fall into me.
Either cuz I’m too old or cuz they know I can kick their ass (and would)
Bring Me The Horizon brought showmanship and drool back to rock and roll and when Oli gobbed on himself or swung from the lighting wires I was rooting the drunkard on like a proud mother. He looked old school punk and it was fantastic.
They’re about to release a new video on March 22 for the song “Blessed With A Curse” from the lp “There Is A Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is A Heaven, Let’s Keep It A Secret.”
Took a long time for the video to surface and I find the release of a ‘teaser’ for it a bit fucked up considering the songs been out for over 6 months, but it’s Oli. He’s one of the family.
Check it out here.
