Brand New- The Golden (Counterfeit) Ticket

Papa’s Got A Brand New Scam

Brand New has 4 upcoming tour dates.  Two West Coast, Two East Coast and they have sold out in minutes.  The band that keeps saying they’re breaking up (but has yet to do so) have added so much hype to their schtick that their fans are rabid to see them ‘in case’ they never come back.

Our request for press credentials was answered with an extremely kind note that the band would not be offering press opportunities this go round (nor last go round) but then again who needs press when social media has made you untouchable?

Word comes now that the bootleggers are out in full force selling fake tickets so the old ‘buyer beware’ mantra should be mentioned.

AbsolutePunk.com contributor “Mystical Lyric” is gaining five minutes of fame for their report of counterfeit tix.

“Even with Brand New‘s shows in California being will-call shows — it looks like there’s a loophole that’s led to some tickets showing up online. Now, we’ve just been informed by AP.net user “Mister Lyrical” that people are selling fake tickets to the shows by posting relatively cheap prices on Craigslist and trying to scam people with counterfeits. His story is below and we just want to urge everyone to be careful out there — don’t want anyone getting fucked over.

Multiple “sellers” sent me pictures of the tickets they supposedly possessed. For starters, hard printed tickets aren’t being sent out until two weeks before the shows. Both told me they had bought through TicketMaster. Secondly, I inquired to two separate ads by two users with different phone numbers asking for pictures of their “tickets” for legitimacy. They both gave me pictures however when I compared the two, two of the tickets were the same exact printing as another sellers (same seats). Pay close attention to the top ticket in the first photo and middle ticket in the second photo. Both say they are section GA13 Seat 21.” Submitted by Mister Lyrical

I am sure this is a great band.  I am also sure that there is a great marketing plot going on behind this.  Granted, the venues are small- but the hype is what is most interesting.  Who is driving this hype machine?  I want to shake their hand (then kick them in the shin).
