I found out some intensely soul-crushing news and I have no idea what to think.
Brand New, an absolutely wonderful band who I adore, posted this statement:
“Brand New regretfully announce that due to insurmountable personal issues, they have been forced to cancel their August European tour, including appearances at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. Sincere apologies to everyone we are letting down.”
Now what does this mean? There’s been tons of fans attempting to pick it apart, and most are skeptical of a break up. However, I don’t think that it’s too far-fetched.
The personal issues are what worry me. I have never seen this band live, and to hear that they’re cancelling some of their dates is disappointing. Not to mention the fact that there are people who were going to fests they were playing just for them and now they won’t be there.
The band hasn’t released anything new since ’09, and they rarely tour. It gave me hope when I heard they were playing Riot Fest, and a few other venues in the US. With the 10 year anniversary of Deja Entendu, I was hoping they’d do a massive tour like TBS did with Tell All Your Friends. At this point, I don’t know what’s going to happen. Up until now, there’s been no hinting at a break up, but this event is too major to ignore. For a band to not play shows because of something happening between members is cause enough for concern.
Brand New is one of my favourite bands of all time and if I don’t get to see them live before they break up, it’ll be so disappointing.
Brand New, please just tour a bit in my area, and release some new stuff. From there, if you break up, I’ll still cry, but at least I’ll have been able to experience your music in person.
