Ya know, I always thought France was a cultured society.  Why our own Alyson Camus is from  the land of love, Iman was called genius all signs pointed to greatness… til now.

Bono the lead singer of U2 (for those of you who forgot why he was famous to begin with) has just received France’s highest cultural honor for his contribution to music and commitment to humanitarian causes.   This presentation came direct from French Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti.

Bono said the award belonged to his band. “I’ve got the biggest mouth and the loudest voice but the music we make comes from each other,” he said.

Mr. Filippetti praised the singer saying: “You committed yourself and dedicated your fame and career to wage some of the greatest wars of our time. Not for charity’s sake but in the name of justice.”

What exactly has Bono done to get himself nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and now this?  Well, he founded the charity ONE, to raise public awareness of poverty in Africa and the fight against Aids. The singer was awarded France’s Legion of Honour in 2003 and an honorary knighthood from the Queen of England in 2007.  This being said he is still an arrogant knob who has his minions do the work and who has created so many faux pas (such as the Louis Vuitton luggage ad debacle) that its just hilarious.  This image here shows Bono landing in a field, staged to appear s if he is there to help the starving of Africa, yet toting thousands of dollars of designer luggage.  Nice one!  One of those bags would get an entire village overweight in no time.  People are easily side tracked but then again the organization ONE cranks out cash and some of it actually makes it to those in needs.
