The Black Keys will be the first SNL of 2011. I’m not going to lie I’m concerned.
I find their style repetitive garage rock and I’m getting more and more worried that there will never be a band WOW worthy on SNL again.
We have all gone on and on with cast changes, it was better with Radner, it sucked with Crystal, we miss Eddie Murphy… bla blah bla.
I can say the same thing now about musical guest.
Remember Elvis Costello? The Clash? The Talking Heads, Blondie, Joe Cocker … remember these bands on SNL?
Now? We aren’t getting the fringe bands anymore. We’re getting the pop stars. Justin Bieber? Seriously, was Shaun Cassidy ever the musical guest in the 70s? HELL NO.
But I guess its lost its edge in this department too.
Lets see, we’ve had KOL, Florence and The Machine, JayZ, Kanye, Rihanna…
all bands with heavy duty radio play.
Actually it seems only charting bands are on the show.
Sad really. Id love to see Mayday Parade or Black Veil Brides on the show.
Wonder whats keeping that from happening.
Is it playing it safe? Is it lack of talent searching?
Or is it just ready for prime time after all?
Iman and Hel do SNL will return on January 8 with the Black Keys…ew…
