Black Flag’s bassist Chuck Dukowski has formed a new band called Black Face, with Oxbow's Eugene Robinson on vocals, Insect vs. Robots' Milo Gonzalez (Dukowski's son) on guitar and Oxbow ex-member Tom Dobrov on drums.
They have only recorded 4 songs, ‘Monster’, ‘Leave Me Out to Rot’, ‘Where Will We Run’ and ‘I Want to Kill You’, that Dukowski had originally written for Black Flag’s album ‘My War’, and that were apparently unknown from anyone except from Dukowski himself
Robinson and Dukowski have known each other for years, and Dukowski has said to have been a fan of Oxbow in many interviews, while Robinson has declared to always have had the idea to sing for or with Dukowski. It is now a reality.
Vacation Vinyl seems to be the only store carrying their ‘I Want toKill You’/’Monster’ 7”, just released on Hydra Head on Black Friday, but this is what Robinson had to say to the OC weekly about the band’s choice to release exclusively the material on vinyl:
‘We like the idea of artifact and we do not like the idea of disposable binary digital bullshit that will be stolen by all 8678 people with even a passing interest in it who will then claim to not have the cash to pay for it.’
But this may be the only immediate release for the new band as the label Hydra Head ‘got so sick of dealing with the already combustible situation that they declined to release the others’.
Oh well, I see young people wearing Black Flag t-shirts all the time, and I remember the craziness of that night in July when Dukowski and Morris played a few Black Flag songs with No Age! This new band should not have any problem at finding its audience.
